This Emergency Medical Services Building constructed in St. Thomas, USVI features a mixture of structural engineering elements such as a steel frame design and concrete masonry design. Construction of this 6,000-SF steel-framed building was blended into the existing site topography utilizing retaining walls. The project includes a 1,800-SF covered parking area, which is capable of supporting an additional future vertical expansion.
Summit Engineering utilized its structural engineering expertise with special structures to assist developers with ensuring the emergency services facility was safe and sturdy. The building, which is designated as an essential facility, utilizes reinforced concrete masonry shear walls for wind and seismic lateral load resistance. Its first floor walls are constructed of reinforced a concrete masonry design, and the roof framing was accomplished using steel bar joists.
