Innovative Commercial Building Design and Masonry Restoration

Overview

This 1970s era building underwent a complete transformation from a commercial building design standpoint. Located in the heart of downtown Portsmouth, this structure experienced a major facelift, especially in terms of its interior layout and exterior masonry design. The building, also referred to as the “old Portsmouth Herald” building, received a brand new entrance and awning thanks to architect, DeStefano Architects, who used metals and contemporary detailing to add a sleek, clean and modern face to the building.

As the engineer of record for this revitalization project, Summit helped make possible various modifications to the original structure, such as the large and frequent openings in the masonry design. This in turn created an opportunity for office space with greater outside views. The restoration work on this building was so successful that Summit decided to take up residence in the newly redesigned space along with other companies.
