"Summit Engineering has consistently
provided us with practical designs with quick
turn-around times."

Building Information Modeling (BIM) with Revit® allows for integration between design disciplines.

Summit Engineering capitalizes on BIM to virtually construct and convey structural design information.

Summit uses Autodesk Revit ® and other Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies to collaborate with design professionals and to integrate with contractors. Our focus on the scope, quality, and level of detail of the information in our models benefits architects, contractors, and building owners as follows:

Collaboration

  • Complete information allows for visualization of complex structural systems such as lateral force resisting systems.
  • Construction details are completed directly within Revit, enabling streamlined sharing of details and background information between design disciplines.
  • Customized parametric data increases effectiveness of sharing models to document interdisciplinary coordination issues such as specification of structural steel surface preparation, paint/primer, and sprayed fireproofing can be easily incorporated into structural construction documents.
  • Use of design options allow bid alternates to be effectively visualized, coordinated, and documented
  • Customized families ensure that modeled structural elements represent geometry as it will be constructed in the field.
  • Sharing of models between disciplines enables Summit to proactively coordinate structural details with architecture and MEP systems.

Integrated Project Delivery

  • Accurate modeling results in detailed takeoffs to confidently confirm construction estimate quantities
  • Fabrication details, such as structural steel connection information, can be incorporated into Revit models – thus eliminating duplication of work by the structural steel detailer, improving information available to bidders, and accelerating project fabrication and shop drawing review schedules
  • Phases and specified construction sequencing can be incorporated into the model to better visualize and plan construction schedules.
  • Electronic submittals such as prefabricated wall panels can be imported into the BIM to verify compliance with design intent.

Summit Engineering has a sizable staff of structural engineers who are trained in multiple BIM technologies, and eager to utilize those technologies to achieve your project goals.
