Rochester Salt Storage Facility – Rochester, NH   Rochester Salt Storage Facility – Rochester, NH
Summit Engineering provided the structural design for a 10,000-SF salt storage building with additional covered space for related equipment storage. The design implemented site-fabricated scissors trusses and cantilevered wood walls. The large interior open space allows for over 3000 yards of salt storage. Summit has designed similar projects for the NH DOT in Belmont, Cornish, and Franconia, NH.

NHDOT Salt Storage Facilities – Belmont, Cornish, and Franconia, NH
Summit Engineering provided the structural design for three 3,600 to 8,400-SF, salt storage buildings with additional covered space for related equipment storage. The design implemented site-fabricated scissors trusses and cantilevered wood walls. The large interior open space allows for thousands of yards of material storage.
Nottingham Fire and Rescue Station – Nottingham, NH   Nottingham Fire and Rescue – Nottingham, NH
Summit Engineering provided the structural design of the municipal building foundation and slab for the 9,000-SF fire station. The design included the office space and apparatus bay slab.

Working on a design/build team with Ricci Construction, Summit provided the design for the foundation of a pre-engineered fabric structure. In addition, Summit designed the large retaining walls for the push loads induced by large construction equipment.

Pier Design – Newport, RI   US Coast Guard Pier Analysis – Newport, RI
Summit Engineering analyzed an existing Coast Guard pier using 3-D analysis software. The pier had undergone significant deterioration to its concrete encased pipe piles. The analysis looked at moving loads, pile failure scenarios, and allowable capacity determination.

New Castle Fire and Police Station – New Castle, NH   New Castle Fire and Police Station – New Castle, NH
As part of a design/build team with Ricci Construction, Summit Engineering provided structural design for this public safety building. Included within the 9,400-SF building are offices for both departments, three apparatus bays, and framing in place to easily provide a fourth opening. The building is primarily framed out of wood, however in order to maximize the open space in the apparatus bay, deep steel beams were utilized. The project’s location prevented long pieces from being delivered so a mid-span splice was designed.

Brentwood Fire Station – Brentwood, NH
Summit Engineering was the structural engineer for Brentwood’s new 9-bay fire station as part of the design/build team of Ricci Construction. Included within the foundation of this 14,000-SF building is a nearly 30,000 gallon cistern. Roof framing was achieved by using 90-foot-long wood trusses. Summit Engineering also prepared the erection plan for the extremely long trusses. The plan called for construction of ganged trusses at the ground level. This allowed for the work crew to install roof sheathing and all the necessary bracing at a comfortable working elevation. Once braced and sheathed, the trusses were lifted in groups, allowing for limited time working at height for the construction crew.

Summit Engineering is providing the structural design for this four-story 60,000-SF building. The building structure consists of a structural steel framing with concrete floors. Exterior walls are comprised of concrete masonry on the first level and cold-formed steel framing above. The first level of the building is built partially into the grade of the surrounding site and will serve as a parking area for the building occupants. The building's essential-use category complicates the design of the seismic and wind lateral load resisting system.

Pier Design – Newport, RI   Air Tracking Station Point of Entry – New Boston, NH
Summit Engineering provided the structural design of a new addition to the Point-of-Entry facility at this government installation. The project was a constructed using the design/build delivery method with THA Architects and ECC.

Pier Design – Newport, RI   NAVFAC-SERE Salt Storage Shed – Rangely, ME
This design/build project required the fast-track design of a new 2,400-SF salt storage facility. The final design was comprised of tall reinforced concrete push walls with conventional wood-framed roof trusses and support walls.

Pier Design – Newport, RI   Strafford School – Strafford, NH
The Strafford Elementary School was originally constructed in phases. The most recent was in the early 1980s. A building maintenance program with the goal of fixing an exterior paint failure issue ended up with an investigation lead by Summit Engineering that determined the structural capacity of the building’s exterior walls were woefully deficient. Working with Davis Goudreau Architects, Building Envelope Consultants, Bonnette Page & Stone, and Strafford school administration officials, the team developed a plan to reinforce the exterior walls in-place. The school department utilized this opportunity to leverage the repair work and added a 13,000-SF classroom expansion to the project.
